Having first encountered the unique Sleaford Mods live experience last summer at the (tragically no more) Beacons Festival, their wildly original and truly memorable set clearly resonated with an audience keen to sample one of the cutting edge acts of the 2014 UK music scene. What was even more pleasantly surprising after the show was having (very) briefly congratulated them on a cracking performance, the pair responded with genuine gratitude and humility, in stark contrast to the bristling menace of their stage persona…gentlemen as well as scholars.

Total Babes came into being in 2010 as a light shower from Cloud Nothings, when drummer Jayson Gercyz buddied up with Christopher Brown to form an outlet for pop songs which didn’t fit the noise-rock vibe of their Swindlella project.

Louisville may be widely known as the location of the Kentucky Derby but for the past seventeen years alt-rockers My Morning Jacket have been sneaking up on the blind side and putting the town on the map for other reasons. Their last album ‘Circuital’ finally cracked the top 5 across the pond, garnering a boatload of acclaim from the music press, helped in no small way by the barnstorming title track. Despite the Stateside success, home grown audiences have been slower to take the band to their heart, but is that about to change with album number seven, ‘The Waterfall’? There is every chance.

Ah, Live at Leeds; that traditional klaxon heralding the start of summer, the day when happy crowds wander our streets with sunglasses perched over their smiles, and a pint outside seems like a realistic possibility for the first time in a long time....or that's how it usually is. This year the day dawned grey and wet, the thermometer in single digits and the look was more bulky layers than bare shoulders. Queues may have been a little more subdued, we may have lingered a little less in the city's green spaces pouring over programmes, but the assembled masses were no less up for this the 9th annual event. With more than two hundred bands in over twenty venues, it promised to be the most varied so far, with acts ranging from chart bothering popsters to up and coming grime stars, delicate acoustic songstrels to spoken word artists.

When I get asked about the Leeds beer scene and what the highlights are, focus inevitably goes initially to the Bars, Pubs and Bottle Shops that seem to be opening on a monthly basis, but also to the sheer number of Breweries that are producing great quality Beer across the county. In what we hope to be a series of articles, Plus One Magazine and I are going to speak to Breweries across the area to get an insight into how things are developing and what to expect from them in future.
